Our Youth, Our Future

The Tupulaga le lumanai – Our Youth, Our Future is a 10-week training programme that will equip young people with necessary skills for either further education, training or employment.

The young people will receive individualised pastoral support during the programme, followed by a minimum of 12 months of post programme pastoral support to ensure they remain on track.

The programme exposes rangatahi/tupulaga to a range of learning opportunities while also providing upskilling and training with an employment focus. Rangatahi/Tupulaga will also look to achieve credits towards NCEA. The proposed programme aspires to change the trajectory of the lives of young people on a downward spiral and set them on a pathway with a strong foundation for their future.

After our 10 week programme – we will assess the Rangatahi/Tupulaga needs and ensure they have what they need to feel confident to get into school, work, further education or training (tertiary/apprenticeship) – eg: uniform/clothing suitable for the environment they are entering; student allowance application; accompany them to the interview for school, work or training; ensure they are on track in achieving their driver licence – eg: driving lessons and defensive driving course; follow up once or twice monthly to see how they are doing after they have settled in their new environment; any housing issues to overcome – there is a lot to do to support our Rangatahi/Tupulaga over the 12 months, as long as the communication lines are open and consistent, this can happen as we have built rapport with them over the first 10 weeks.
